Geocaching is a worldwide game of hide and seek for caches. There are approximately 200 caches in Langlade County at any given time. The Geocacher pinpoints the location using a GPS unit then shares the location online and anyone with a GPS unit can try to find it. Geocaching sounds easy however it is one thing to find a location on a map it is another thing to actually get to the location in person.

Geocaching has three basic rules:

1. If you take something from a cache, leave something of equal or greater value.

2. Write about your find in the cache's log.

3. Log your experience on a website like www.geocaching.com.

So what do you usually find in a cache? Every cache, no matter how big or small, contains a logbook. The log has information from the owner/placer of the cache, and notes from previous visitors. Small caches may include a log sheet remember to bring a pen to sign the log. Large caches include a log and any number of items. Please note that people of all ages participate in geocaching so explosives, ammunition, knives, drugs & alcohol should never be put in caches. Food items are also a bad idea, food caches are often destroyed by animals.
